June Crown for Linen Spoon, New Cooks

Lady Arganteilin's picture

The following will be held at June Crown, in conjunction with the
normal Wooden Spoon competition. This is for new cooks (Cooking
Medieval food for less than 2 years "AND" have not entered more than
2 Spoon competitions {New Cooks competitions do not count}) to help
get their feet wet.

This is a competition, but above all else, it is being held to help
new cooks learn the in's and out's of Spoon competitions. In this
competition you will redact (translate and create a more modern style
recipe) the recipe given below.

Documentation shall consist of the following
• Original recipe (already given to you)
• Your redaction (even if a translation has already been
provided)
• Notes on if you made any changes and why
• And if you found any other sources to back up what you are
saying/doing.

You should be able to keep the documentation to one-two pages in
length (provide 3 copies for the judges – no names). As with other
competitions your entries should be dropped off at the appropriate
location (wherever Wooden Spoon is being held) by 1pm. For this
competition we ask that all entrants return for the judging. This
will give you an idea how entries are judged, you may be asked
questions by the judges, and in return, you may ask the judges
questions after the judging is complete. And, if you are
wondering, `no', you do not have to cook the entry on site; that is
completely up to you (if you do, put it in the notes).

So, if you have ever wanted to enter a cooking competition, but you
were afraid you just didn't know enough about how to go about it, or
what they really wanted, now's your chance. Have some fun with
this. If you have any questions…feel free to ask away.
