Beltane Competition "New Cooks"

Greetings

There has been many a new cook in our fine Kingdom
that have shied away from entering any of the Spoon
competitions for multiple reasons. The one I have
heard the most is a toss between not really knowing
what is required and fear they are going up against
highly experienced cooks. So, we have come up with a
solution. We are shall have a cooking
competition/learning shop.

The following will be held at Beltane, in conjunction
with the normal Wooden Spoon competition. This is for
new cooks (Cooking Medieval food for less than 2 years
"AND" have not entered more than 2 Spoon competitions)
to help get their feet wet.

This is a competition, but above all else, it is being
held to help new cooks learn the in's and out's of
Spoon competitions. In this competition you will
redact (translate and create a more modern style
recipe) the recipe given below.

Documentation shall consist of the following
• Original recipe (already given to you)
• Your redaction
• Notes on if you made any changes and why
• And if you found any other sources to back up what
you are saying/doing.

You should be able to keep the documentation to one
page in length (provide 3 copies for the judges – no
names). As with other competitions your entries
should be dropped off at the appropriate location by
1pm. For this competition we ask that all entrants
return for the judging. This will give you an idea
how entries are judged, you may be asked questions by
the judges, and in return, you may ask the judges
questions after the judging is complete. And, if you
are wondering, ‘no’, you do not have to cook the entry
on site; that is completely up to you (if you do, put
it in the notes).

So, if you have ever wanted to enter a cooking
competition, but you were afraid you just didn’t know
enough about how to go about it, or what they really
wanted, now’s your chance. Have some fun with this.
If you have any questions…feel free to ask away.

Here is your recipe:

Frytour of Erbes

“Take gode erbys; grynde hem and medle hem with flour
and water, & a lytel 3est, and salt, and frye hem in
oyle. And ete hem with dere hony”
