My barony. I have some unpleasant things to pass on. The Kingdom has had enough of a barony not having a herald. For two years before Serena stepped down she asked for a replacement and no one stepped forward. To try to push the issue, last year we allowed Serena to step down. No one has come forward to take the job. This is only one sign of our larger problem which is the participation level is not high enough to maintain baronial status. We are acting like a shire. This is fine if that is what the populace wants.
The Kingdom is giving us notice that we must correct the situation. I agree. If we do not have a person step up to be herald immediately we will be put into abeyance. This Wednesday is our business meeting. The attendance at this meeting will determine if we remain a barony or revert to a shire. The last year has seen small attendance at the meetings. Less than 10 for most. Sorry, but that is pretty pathetic for a barony of 66. We should see half of our members at the next meeting, or consider you have polled with your feet.
We are in dire straights and without participation we will not remain a barony. My hands will be tied. There is nothing more I can do. The barony must decide as a group. It must be fixed as a group. All of our officers have served multiple terms. Only the Seneschal has been only one term. There needs to be a rotation. We need to be active.
So, I hope that Wednesday I will be able to announce a new herald and plans for succession for the rest of our officers. And I hope to have a plan for polling to choice my heirs as Baron.
But, I may have to announce the schedule for us to downsize to a shire. Wednesday will be the test. We pass or we don't. You will tell me. I hope to see many at the meeting.
